KENT BONSAI CLUB / HANAMI COLLECTION 2018
What is Hanami?
Hanami is the Japanese festival dedicated to cherry blossom (sakura) and is celebrated across Japan every year.
The word Hanami elegantly captures the reflex happiness and enjoyment of seeing blossom in full bloom. For generations, families and friends in Japanese towns and cities have gathered together in the fresh spring air to enjoy an afternoon under the Cherry Blossom; enjoying drinks and a meal together under the beautiful trees, making it a unique and ‘not to miss event!
This week-end had everything Japanese you could possibly think of, from (Taiko) Drumming and (Tameshigiri) Samurai swordsmanship to traditional Tea Ceremony and Bonsai Trees (Kent Bonsai Club). All this and many more artefacts to learn and purchase of Japanese culture ending in a picnic in the warm sun.
Kent club put on a fantastic show of trees as usual. The club have been asked to return in 2019 this has been confirmed by us. In 2019 we hope to have a larger Marque to ourselves as again we could not fit the public in for viewing and Clifford’s demonstration which was received with great applause. Next year we intend to have more trees on display a larger demonstration area and workshop. If possible, we will have starter trees available for sale to the public. We feel privileged as a club to be asked each year to this very special and unique event.
Below are photos taken on the day.

HANAMI FESTIVAL 2019
Hanami Blossom Festival at Brogdale. Sunday 14th April.
A sunny but cold day with a keen easterly wind. This year we saw MANY more visitors than last year. A steady stream showed continued interest in the trees, with some returning several times. The club were asked to do a demonstration during the afternoon which our Chairman did with great response from the gathered crowed in our marque. Leaflets were available and advertising for the show. Again, the food was good, and we watched the history of the tea ceremony and also Japanese drumming. Please find below a number of pictures taken on the day. We are always proud to be asked to show Bonsai at this event, and have been requested by the organizers to return again in 2020.
