The Art of Saikei
Introduced by
David Penny
Global President of the International Saikei Association
o0o
David has been a good friend of Kent Bonsai Club for many years and recently spent a whole evening presenting and showing us the art of the wonderful art of Saikei.
After introductions and niceties had been exchanged David began the evening explaining the history and basic principles behind this wonderful area of bonsai growing and display. Shallow pots are used therefore well-draining Keto soil is used in Saikei. Rocks and stone are used to mimic mountains. Volcanic rock is a favourite because it is lighter. Your design is only controlled your own imagination and basic rules of Saikei. Stones are placed in the tray to represent a mountain range surrounded by land or water. Refer to YouTube for videos and demonstration by DAVID, Renu Vaish and Frank Goya. Small trees are chosen as required and accent type plants with moss to complete the mini landscape. For good results once you have finished your layout leave for a few months to settle in and mature before you start to style.
Please use the pictures supplied for reference. Hope you have fun.
